The Clairvoyants Christmas

America’s Got Talent finalists and World Champions of Mentalism, The Clairvoyants, are thrilled to announce their 2019 US Christmas Tour. The holiday-themed show will feature illusions performed by the duo that will be sure to get audiences in the Christmas spirit.

“We cannot wait to celebrate the most magical time of the year with our audience,” Thommy Ten and Amélie van Tass shared. “We will spend an unforgettable evening together. Get ready to experience the miracle of Christmas in your hearts and minds.”

When Amélie van Tass and Thommy Ten met in October 2011, they began to develop their "second sight" act, and two months later brought it on stage for the first time. Within a year, they had developed a full length show. Shortly thereafter, they started touring Europe.

In 2014, they received their first long term contract in America. After a six month run in the show "The Illusionarium," they were offered a featured spot in the largest touring magic show in the world, “The Illusionists.”

In 2016, they decided to take part in the biggest talent show in the world, “America’s Got Talent.” After four months, six different performances and over 100,000 contestants, America voted them second place. In October 2016, they appeared, together with winner Grace Vanderwaal, at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. More recently, in early 2019, they were personally invited to compete in the AGT spinoff, America’s Got Talent: The Champions, wowing the judges with every performance. Being part of not one, but two highly successful TV shows has been another major step in the evolution of their career.

A highlight of their career was the opportunity to perform their show at the Sydney Opera House. In winter 2016, they experienced another career highlight, headlining the show “The Illusionists - Turn of the Century” in the Palace Theatre in New York City, on Broadway. The show was the best selling magic show in Broadway history.

Van Tass and Ten were awarded “The German Champions of Mentalism,” “Magicians of the Year 2015,” and, also in 2015, were enthusiastically chosen as the “World Champions of Mentalism,” a prize that hasn't been awarded in 30 years.

In April 2017, the Academy of Magical Arts and The Magic Castle Hollywood awarded Thommy Ten & Amélie van Tass "Stage Magicians of the Year 2016" for their extraordinary art.

Thommy Ten and Amélie van Tass continue to appear with their full length show in America and Europe and perform for corporate events worldwide. In beginning of 2019, they appeared twice on NBC's new show America's Got Talent: The Champions.
12/13/198:00 p.m.Riverside Casino & Golf Resort®Riverside -

Art Exhibit: Keeping the Bubble Happy

Gilded Pear Gallery is pleased to present "Keeping the Bubble Happy", a solo exhibit of new works by Mary Zeran.

This show investigates the idea that we all possess our inner world in relation to the external- our bubble. The works featured are a response to keeping both of these in equilibrium; the artist illustrates her personal reflection to what that means with color, movement, texture and composition. “I structure my world around a system of patterns and habits to create a psychological ecosystem that allows me to transcend my sadness, fears, insecurities, and doubts”, says Zeran. Painterly organic shapes and patterned blocks are affixed together in chaotic harmony. “I am a participant in the collaboration with the material and my atmosphere is airy within dense and transparent layers, focusing on interactions with the natural world around me.” As she abstracts flowers, trees, and the colors of nature, she uses this language to bring her closer to her family’s craft traditions while exploring her own internal voice. Exhibiting works are largely displayed on panel and paper and include her signature “object” renderings.

Mary Zeran received her B.F.A and M.F.A from University of Iowa. She was born in Iowa City in 1964 and now lives and works in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is the recipient of several awards and honors and her works are in numerous public and private collections as well as many notable corporate collections. Her collage works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad. Museum collections include The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY, and Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, Cedar Rapids IA. She has been reviewed in The Art Examiner, Seattle Post Intelligencer, Artweek, and Kolaj Magazine.

Parking, Accessibility:
A limited parking lot is available with 1 handicap space. Unwrapped: Gifts from the Peter Norton Family Christmas Project, 1988-2018

Retired computer entrepreneur Peter Norton (Norton Antivirus Software) is a contemporary art collector as well as an active participant in various civic and philanthropic activities. In 1988, the Norton Family Christmas Project began commissioning artists to create original, multiple-edition works that were mailed as holiday greetings to friends, colleagues, and selected institutions. In 2017, the CRMA received the bulk of these wonderful holiday greetings from Director Emeritus Terry Pitts and his wife Kathy Hall.

The objects and artists’ books that comprise the Project collection are incredibly varied. A sense of whimsy runs through many of the pieces: salt and pepper shakers become snow globes, a music box exhorts us to be silent. Many works also have a sociopolitical focus, addressing issues as varied as slavery, AIDS, and gender identity. Taken together, the Norton Family Christmas Project objects and artists’ books provide a wonderful snapshot of the last thirty years of activity in the art world at large, presenting the work of both emerging and more established artists. Up All Night: The Art of the Dark

From Renaissance artists painting images of the Nativity to 18th century artists depicting new scientific discoveries to Post-Impressionist painters such as Van Gogh turning the night sky into a mesmeric swirl of brush strokes, the night has been inspiring artists for hundreds of years. The dark can symbolize many things in art: mystery, solitude, fear, superstition, secrets, or death. The striking juxtaposition of light against the night may represent hope, discovery, magic, the evidence of a divine presence, or other forms of literal “enlightenment.” Historically, night scenes were a chance for artists to show off their mastery of painting light effects. Moonlight, candles, and later, electric lights against the dark added drama to the scene. Up All Night celebrates the night scenes in the CRMA’s collection: Grant Wood’s evocative Quaker Oats, Marvin Cone’s charming Christmas cards, M.C. Escher’s tesselated Day into Night, amongst others. Enjoy the look at one of art history’s oldest ways of infusing drama into art.

2019-12-11 16:00:00 -060012/11/1912:00 p.m.Cedar Rapids Museum of ArtCedar Rapids -
