Soul Care: Creative Arts Grief Support Group with Prairiewoods

Take time to connect with others in grief and engage the creative spark. Jamie Siela and Christine Wagner-Hecht from Unity Point Hospice facilitate this monthly grief group open to anyone grieving loss through death. On the third Wednesday of each month, come together on Zoom to explore a different creative art medium. Our January art project is a moon phase wall hanging. As we turn the page into a new year, we will look at how we can move forward, forever impacted by our grief experience. The new moon marks the time for new beginnings, growth and optimism. We will create a moon phase hanging that will signify the changes that come and go as we continue our grief journeys. We will meet online via Zoom. Group art kits will be mailed one week prior to the session, so registration is required by the previous Tuesday. This group is free and includes all art supplies. For more information or to register, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.
2018-04-28 19:00:00 -05001/20/215:00 p.m.Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality CenterHiawatha -

Blakelock: By the Light of the Moon Art Exhibit

Forgeries, mental illness, intrigue, and rapid fame—the dramatic circumstances of Ralph Albert Blakelock’s life often overshadow the merits of his work. By the Light of the Moon will feature eight exceptional artworks by Blakelock from the museum collection. Born in 1847, his early paintings were highly detailed landscapes inspired by Hudson River School painters. After traveling to the American West and becoming familiar with Barbizon painters, Blakelock developed the atmospheric landscapes for which he is known. Drenched in darkness and silvery moonlight, his thickly painted landscapes have a distinctive otherworldly quality. This exhibition will explore Blakelock’s body of work and how his interest in spiritualism is reflected in his artistic practice.
2021-01-18 17:00:00 -06001/18/2110:00 a.m.Figge Art MuseumDavenport -

When Time Stopped Virtual Author Talk and Book Signing

Whilst stories of the holocaust continue to appall, remarkable stories of courage and endurance continue to emerge. She previously worked as a foreign correspondent for Venezuela’s The Daily Journal and her writing has also appeared in The European. Haitian Masterworks Art Exhibit

The Figge Art Museum is home to one of the largest collections of Haitian art in the United States. In 1967, Dr. Walter E. Neiswanger’s generous gift of Haitian paintings and sculptures established the collection, which has grown to include a dynamic range of artwork in a variety of mediums and styles. The collection continues to grow through strategic purchases and gifts, including the Figge’s recent acquisition N’ap naje ansamn, n’ap vole ansamn, by contemporary Haitian- American artist Didier William. Haitian Masterworks will feature significant as well as rarely exhibited works from the Haitian collection by Hector Hyppolite, Wilson Bigaud, Nacius Joseph, Georges Liautaud, Frantz Zéphirin, and Edouard Duval-Carrié, among others. Mediums including painting, beading, metalwork, and mixed media sculpture will be included. This exhibition will focus on prevalent themes in Haitian art, including spirituality, transformation, the natural world, everyday life, and Haitian history.
2021-01-21 17:00:00 -06001/21/2110:00 a.m.Figge Art MuseumDavenport -
