HAPPY BLUE YEAR XXXV: 7 p.m. Saturday (12/31), The Artisan’s Sanctuary, 45 16th Ave. SW, and The Village Meat Market & Cafe, 92 16th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids. Featuring Bob Dorr & The Blue Band, with drummers John Rohlf and Steve Hayes, Nolan Schroeder and Brian Crew on horns, Doug Norton on bass and vocals, and Cathy Henry on vocals. The two 35-year original members — Bob Dorr and Jeff Petersen — also will play as their duo, The Blue 2, and part of the Parlor City Jam Band with Blue Band alum Dan Johnson and Iowa Blues Hall of Fame keyboard player Tommy “T-Bone” Giblin, who will play for the Blue Band, too. Dorr and Peterson will join Iowa Rock ’n’ Roll Hall of Famers Dave Hummel and Cricket Davis for music by Blue Mississippi. NEW YEAR’S EVE SNOWSHOE HIKE: 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday (12/31), Indian Creek Nature Center, 5300 Otis Rd. SE, Cedar Rapids. The nature center and the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art are partnering for a guided snowshoe hike, discussing how winter is a time for the woods to go to sleep. Learn about which flora and fauna lay its head to rest until spring. No snowshoeing experience needed; wear winter- or hiking boots; hiking poles or ski poles helpful but optional.
