North Liberty is taking binge watching public.
In the age of Netflix and streaming internet, relaxing with popcorn and several episodes of a beloved show is part of American life. A new summer program in North Liberty, Another Episode, is taking that experience and moving it outside and onto the big screen.
Another Episode starts tonight (5/18) on the front lawn of the North Liberty Community Center with a public screening of the first season of the comedy “Parks and Rec.”
With six episodes shown tonight, the free outdoor show will wrap up in about three hours, and people can come and go as they please — the event is free. Community members can vote online for which shows will be screened at Another Episode nights later this summer.
Organizers are aiming for family-friendly comedies like “Modern Family,” “Scrubs” or “The Office,” North Liberty community engagement coordinator Jillian Miller said.
“We started looking at what shows we have access to that don’t have episodes that you have to watch in order to understand and enjoy,” she said.
In between episodes, there will be trivia and other activities on the big screen. Food stands such as Marco’s Grilled Cheese will be on hand, and the Friends of the North Liberty Community Library will sell popcorn. People also can bring their own food, though alcohol is not allowed. People should bring their own chairs and blankets. The rain location is inside the community center in the gym.
Miller said she hopes the event gives families another way to enjoy their town.
“North Liberty didn’t have an outdoor movie night like a lot of communities have,” she said. “Since we are starting from scratch, we can do something a little bit different.”
