On March 17, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds declared a statewide public health disaster emergency in response to the state's coronavirus outbreak. The proclamation includes the restriction of in-person gatherings of 10 or more people along with the temporary closing of several businesses in the arts, culture and entertainment sector.

Most of the public gatherings listed on the Hoopla calendar are canceled or postponed through the end of April. Please check with event organizers to confirm the status of events you see listed.

Veterans Memorial Building Description

The Veterans Memorial Building is a historic landmark located in downtown Cedar Rapids on "Mays Island." The Building spans an entire city block, uniquely standing between 1st and 2nd Avenue bridges. The main entrance is located at 50 2nd Avenue Bridge. FREE and open to the public, Mon. - Fri. 8:30 am - 4:30 pm, or by special appointment. Stop by and see the "Memorial Window" designed by artist Grant Wood, and take in the military-themed museum displays. The Building is also filled with many Veterans organizations, and clubs; as well as businesses that rent office space.There are three areas to rent in the Building: The Coliseum, Armory, and Ballroom.
