English Country Dance
<p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>English Country Dance</strong></p><p><strong>Fee: Sliding scale $3-$6; pay what you can at the door.</strong><strong> No registration.</strong></p><p>Open to All Ages</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Saturdays</strong><strong>, 9/15, 10/20, 11/17, 12/15</strong></p><p><strong>7</strong><strong> - 10 PM in the Assembly Room</strong></p><p>Come to the English Country Dance and enjoy moving in smooth figures to gorgeous LIVE music. Everyone who wants to dance is guaranteed a partner. Each dance is taught, and all ages are encouraged to participate. The dance form dates back to the 16th century. It appears in some movies portraying Queen Elizabeth I, as well as in film adaptations of Dickens and Jane Austen novels. Each dance has its own music. Moving with Parkinson's
<p>Moving with Parkinson's is an ongoing group exercise program designed to empower people with Parkinson's & other neurological conditions. Functional exercises include big movements, stretching, posture, balance, strength, gait (walking), facial, vocal, and cognitive. Classes are designed for the individual who is independent and mobile, but would like to maintain or improve their functional abilities.<br><br>In addition to the physical improvement, weekly camaraderie with like-minded people provides social reinforcement, optimism, hope and encouragement to handle the daily challenges of PD.<br><br>Caregivers are welcome to participate, but are not required to attend the class. </p> 2018-12-16 13:45:00 -0600Iowa City/Johnson County Senior CenterIowa City -
Art in the Afternoon
<p><strong>Art in the Afternoon</strong></p><p><strong>Fee: none.</strong><strong> No registration.</strong></p><p>Open to All Ages</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>Sundays</strong><strong>, 9/16, 10/21, 11/18, 12/16</strong></p><p><strong>1</strong><strong> - 2:30 PM in the Assembly Room</strong></p><p>Organizer: ArtiFactory</p><p>Since February of 2016, Art in the Afternoon has been a monthly showcase for Iowa City area artists to present their artwork and display their skills. These programs are free and open to the public. This fall we will add to the growing list with four remarkable artists.</p><p><strong>12/16:</strong> Adam Burke is an intermedia artist working in video, performance, and photography. He is also a writer and editor. His award-winning documentaries, animations, and music videos have been screened in festivals across the country and can be found in the collections of the University of Florida, Kansas State University, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and more. He was a studio assistant to Hans Breder for several years, working on digital paintings, installations, performances, music, and dozens of videos. While studying with Breder as an MFA student in Intermedia and Video Art, he was awarded the Ana Mendieta Scholarship. Burke is a 2018 graduate of the Eon Virtual Reality Innovation Academy at Eastern Iowa Community College in Davenport.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><em>These programs are presented in partnership with The ArtiFactory, a project of Arts Iowa City, a 501(c)(3) organization whose vision is to create a community arts center in Iowa City. Dance, listen, and enjoy authentic Argentine tango music. Admission includes some snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. Feel free to bring your own favorite snacks or non-alcoholic beverage to share.
