• The Wolgasts in Concert

  Come together on Sunday, October 11, at 3:00 PM for a concert featuring First Lutheran’s music staff, Brett and Marita Wolgast. The concert titled, "Hymn Settings through the Ages," will feature music for solo organ, organ and piano duets, and audience participation led by the First Lutheran Adult Choir. The program includes arrangements of such familiar hymns as, “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty” and “O God Our Help in Ages Past,” to American hymns and Spirituals like, “Go Down, Moses,” “Swing Low Sweet Chariot,” and “Shall We Gather at the River.” This year, 2026, also marks the 5th Anniversary of First Lutheran’s pipe organ built by Parsons Pipe Organ Builders of Canandaigua, NY. Installed in the spring and summer months of 2021, the instrument was dedicated to the glory of God in August of that year. Through worship, concerts, and other special events, the Parsons Opus 50 pipe organ along with the church’s grand pianos, other instruments, and music ministries continue to enhance and inspire the congregation and community with God’s wonderful gift of music. 2026-09-25 16:30:00 -0500

• Psalms and a Vision Unfolding

  The Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale opens its season with a program that explores the power of sacred texts, reflection, and social connection. The first half features three compelling settings of the Psalms: an unaccompanied interpretation of Psalms 69 and 71 by Allen Koepke, along with organ-accompanied settings of Psalm 148 by Gustav Holst and Psalm 47 by John Rutter. The second half features Kyle Pederson’s A Vision Unfolding, a five-movement work inspired by themes of social justice, compassion, and hope. With spoken text by poet Shanelle Gabriel, the piece combines choral music with violin, trumpet, and drums to create a powerful and thought-provoking musical experience. 2026-08-18 15:30:00 -0500
