June learned about the vanishing at age fourteen, locked down on her family’s isolated commune. Now, the deeper she digs into the project, the darker the story gets.

Everyone has a theory. Greer’s mother, Blanche, and her best friend, Rachel, believe that Greer’s fiancé, Jonathan, is the culprit. Greer’s agent is convinced that Greer committed suicide after a debilitating bout of writer’s block. And Jonathan claims it was either Greer’s controlling mother or Rachel, whose attachment to Greer went way beyond friendship.

In desperation, Rachel gives June a suitcase full of Greer’s most personal writings in hopes of finding proof against Jonathan. Then Rachel turns up dead. As June pores over Greer’s writings, she makes a devastating discovery that could finally reveal the truth about the author’s fate. But now, June finds herself in the sights of a killer who’ll stop at nothing to keep their darkest secret.
2022-05-18 20:00:00 -05006/27/227:00 p.m.Craft'dCedar Rapids -

Allied forces hit the beaches of Nazi-occupied France. Among the countless lives shattered are those of five spirited women with starkly different lives. Finally, dignified Adelaide’s faith is shaken when she is forced to quarter German soldiers.

Now, during the most perilous twenty-four hours of their lives, all five women must summon courage they never knew they had, as they confront the physical dangers of war, alongside treacherous family secrets, heartbreak, and the ability to trust themselves. Sacred Earth, Sacred Soul at Prairiewoods

The Celtic people seemed to be very much in tune with their environment and the natural world. What is the wisdom from our Celtic ancestors we instinctively recognize and trust as we travel through these seemingly disturbing times? John Phillip Newell explores some of this wisdom by looking at the lives and teachings of prophetic figures throughout the centuries in his newest book, Sacred Earth, Sacred Soul: Celtic Wisdom for Awakening to What Our Souls Know and Healing the World. This book focuses on the wisdom of Pelagius, Brigid of Kildare, John Scotus Eriugena, Alexander John Scott, John Muir, de Chardin, George MacLeod and Kenneth White and offers us a chance to more fully recognize some of these wisdom callings from within ourselves. From the book’s introduction: “We know things in the core of our being that we have not necessarily been taught, and some of this deep knowing may actually be at odds with what our society or religion has tried to teach us. This book is about reawakening to what we know in the depths of our being, that the earth is sacred and that this awareness is at the heart of every human being and life-form. To awaken again to this deep knowing is to be transformed in the ways we choose to live and relate and act.” John Philip Newell is an internationally acclaimed spiritual teacher and popular speaker and the widely read author of several books, including The Rebirthing of God and A New Ancient Harmony. You are invited to gather online with others in conversation around the people and ideas introduced by Newell in his book. Facilitator Ellen Bruckner will guide us as we gather via Zoom for a total of four sessions, each two hours in length (on either Tuesday mornings or Wednesday evenings). We will try to pay close attention to how the wisdom we explore has an impact on our own lives today. Much of the time will be spent in conversation, and reading the book Sacred Earth, Sacred Soul is recommended. The cost is $30 for the four-part series, and registration is required to get the Zoom link. For more information or to register, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.
2022-05-24 11:00:00 -05005/25/229:00 a.m.Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality CenterHiawatha -

Trekfest 37 - Dave Zollo and The Body Electric

The long-awaited new release from Iowa City-based singer/songwriter/bandleader/producer, featuring 9 new songs and made with his touring band, The Body Electric, as well as many musical guests, and is co-produced by long-time musical partner Stephen Howard. Zollo is known for his work as a sideman with such American roots-music luminaries as Todd Snider, Greg Brown, The Pines, and William Elliot Whitmore (to name a few) but also for his work as songwriter and frontman of Iowa's alt-country pioneers, High and Lonesome, and the solo records he made with his own band. This is Zollo's first recording since leaving the record label he founded and ran from 1994-2005, Trailer Records, which put out releases by Greg Brown, Bo Ramsey, High and Lonesome, Pieta Brown, Brother Trucker and Kelly Pardekooper, among many others. As with Zollo's previous records, "For Hire" mixes rock and roll, blues, soul, gospel and honkey-tonk, to create a unique sound all his own.
2022-03-09 15:00:00 -06006/25/2212:30 p.m.Riverside Area Community Clubriverside
