Marion BBQ Rendezvous
<p>The <strong>Marion BBQ Rendezvous</strong> is an annual event on the first Saturday in June at Lowe Park from 11AM to 9PM. Proceeds go to the Kiwanis Miracle League at Prospect Meadows where kids with disabilities get to play baseball. </p><p><strong>Great Food</strong> <br>This year's event features BBQ from Willie Ray's Q Shack, Bambbq, Bob's BBQ Emporium, SugarFire, and Hatchets. Other assorted food, ice cream, and beverages (water, soda, and a variety of national and local brews) will be available.</p><p><strong>Great Music</strong><br>Our musical guests are The Janeys (11AM to 2PM), CJ Ryder and the Pastmasters (2:30PM to 5PM), and The Dogs of Society (6PM to 9PM). The Dogs are the Ultimate Elton John tribute band. If you're an Elton fan you don't want to miss this FREE show. </p><p><strong>Family Fun</strong><br>We'll have face painting fun for the kids.</p><p><strong>Free Admission</strong><br>The Dogs of Society are from St. Louis, and a typical price for their show would be $40 a ticket. This Ability-Holistic Dance
<p>Jhe and Jenni both live with bilateral disabilities and chronic pain and have decided to entitle this form of movement “This Ability’’ as opposed to the term disability. We want to encourage all peoples, especially those who may be in mental and physical pain, to trust themselves through non-judgmental movement using the vehicle of sacred geometry.</p><p>The five elements, including their geometric shapes, are:</p><p>- Earth- Cube</p><p>- Water-Icosahedron</p><p>- Air-Octahedron</p><p>- Fire-Tetrahedron</p><p>- Ether-Dodecahedron</p><p>We will be creating a safe space for people of all ages and experiences to be held in community movement and exploration, regardless of their current mental or mobility struggles.</p> 2022-04-15 14:00:00 -05006/25/221:00 p.m.James Alan McPherson ParkIowa City -

The return of this popular program series welcomes guests into the Museum of Natural History's magical gallery spaces after-hours to work on sketching or writing projects with other campus and community artists.</p><p>Tell a friend, grab a notebook, and join us on the <strong>first Friday of each month</strong>. We'll provide a new inspo prompt for each session and will sometimes move about the Museum but we'll always <strong>start in the Hageboeck Hall of Birds (Bird Hall) on the 3rd Floor of Macbride Hall</strong>. Join anytime between 6-8pm and feel free to participate in a themed creation challenge or work on your own project with our exhibits as inspiration. We'll save the last 15-30 minutes of each session to share what we've been working on, connecting with others (optional, of course!).</p><hr><p>Please note, the Museum is typically closed during this time meaning the main entrance to Iowa Hall (atop the large staircase outside on the east side of Macbride Hall) will be closed and locked. All other building doors will be open, offering access to the Ground Floor of Macbride Hall. Please invite friends and family to ensure the event happens as scheduled. We would love to meet your loved ones.</p><p><br></p><p>EDUCATOR</p><p>Jhe Russell is a holistic dance healer. He received his MFA from University of Iowa in choreography and dance. He is able to weave together and connect traditional ballet positions with the elementary teachings of the 5 elements. Every human being has a head, two arms and two legs which equals the five elements. In ballet there are five major positions which relate to the five elements.</p><p><br></p><p>Jenni Rose</p><p>From the age of five Jenni had the opportunity to dance with various dance studios and participated on the Solon High School dance team. She went on to study photography in Chicago, at Harrington School of Design and spent her twenties focused on learning about weaving, natural and synthetic dye processes, and shearing sheep. She interned at The Chicago Weaving School for 2 years, and through that process developed her own weaving curriculum that she then taught to the age of preschool to adult, in Chicago and Seattle. In 2018 she suffered an undiagnosed inflammatory episode that caused significant neuropathy and mobility loss. She has learned a lot through her personal healing journey and contributes most of that healing to the gift of a grateful mindset and a good mother. </p><p><br></p><p>LOCATION</p><p>Wetherby Park, 2400 Taylor Dr, Iowa City, IA 52240, USA</p><p><br></p><p>COVID-19</p><p>The event is held outside.
