Cedar Amateur Astronomers present Solar Saturday, July 9, 2022

Learn more about our nearest star – the Sun - as Cedar Amateur Astronomers and our own Mr. Carl Bracken present a Solar Saturday event entitled "The Sun and Earth Connections" from 3-6 PM on Saturday July 9, 2022. Mr. Bracken will present some of the recent research which involves the interconnection between the Sun and the Earth and the wide range of global impacts driven by the Sun. He will also delve into the history of solar activity including the famous "Carrington Event" in 1859.

In the current phase of solar cycle 25, we are seeing an increase in sun spots, flares, prominence, and coronal mass ejections. Mr. Bracken will provide video of these events and explain how and why they occur and describe what this means to us.

Weather permitting, stick around following the presentation for the rare opportunity to safely view the Sun, as CAA members will be operating several telescopes equipped with approved solar viewing filters. Remember, NEVER look at the Sun without the proper filters! Only specially equipped optical aids can be used to safely observe the sun.

CAA members will also be giving tours of the facility and will be available to answer questions as you browse the exhibits and displays. This event is for all ages and levels of astronomy interest and free of charge.
2022-05-16 18:00:00 -05007/09/223:00 p.m.Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning CenterEly -

Tim Sullivan – America Needs Comedians (26th Anniversary Show)

Doors 7 PM, Show 8 PM, 21+ only

$15 in advance, $20 at the door

Tim Sullivan: America Needs Comedians – 26th Anniversary Show

This is my life. This is what I have been doing since I was a little kid but am getting paid for now. I love comedy and love the audiences and hate anything that keeps me from it. My show does not single anyone out. You will not have to worry about being made fun of if you need to use the restroom. My show is not designed to make you think or prove a political point. But one thing I can promise you is that it will make you laugh and hopefully let you forget about your problems for an hour. If you spend your money to see my show you will not leave disappointed, unless you were expecting to see a talking puppet or you think Taylor Swift makes smart relationship decisions. If so then please don’t come to my show anyways. I will be a comic till the day I die and hope to see you out there on the road. Now quit reading this and go see where my upcoming shows are.
2022-06-29 22:00:00 -05007/29/227:00 p.m.The Lucky Cat Comedy & EventsCedar Rapids -

Obsessed with comedy she moved to Chicago, and has made a name for herself as a favorite in one of the best comedy cities in the world. She’s become one of the most respected and requested comedians in the Midwest, and is now a nationally touring headliner.Reena’s material is autobiographical, silly, and charmingly inappropriate, pulling from a lifetime of questionable choices.

Speaking of questionable choices, she is currently the only woman in America who lives on the road as a full-time stand up comedian. Living out of a tricked out Prius, this pun-slinger travels the country on her signature #Calmedy tours. She’s on a mission to make people laugh in all 50 States (just a few left to go).

She’s opened for legends like Arsenio Hall, Laurie Kilmartin, and Eddie Pepitone, to name a few. Reena has been a frequent guest on WGN Radio, was on the Doug Loves Movies podcast, and was named Comic of The Week on The Jackie & Laurie Show. She recently recorded her first “CALMEDY” album with Helium Comedy Records, to be released later this year.

Check out her book “Once A Pun A Time…Legend of a Sighs Queen” on Amazon. Reena’s been called “a one woman punk band of a comedian” by Jeff Bailey, “everything comedy should be” by Sam Tallent, one of “the best independent comics in the country” by Clearwater Comedy, “also terrific” by the Chicago Tribune, and “NOT a disappointment” by her mother. She hopes to do a show in your town soon, and would love to sleep in your finest parking lot.
