Marion BBQ Rendezvous
<p>The <strong>Marion BBQ Rendezvous</strong> is an annual event on the first Saturday in June at Lowe Park from 11AM to 9PM. Proceeds go to the Kiwanis Miracle League at Prospect Meadows where kids with disabilities get to play baseball. </p><p><strong>Great Food</strong> <br>This year's event features BBQ from Willie Ray's Q Shack, Bambbq, Bob's BBQ Emporium, SugarFire, and Hatchets. Other assorted food, ice cream, and beverages (water, soda, and a variety of national and local brews) will be available.</p><p><strong>Great Music</strong><br>Our musical guests are The Janeys (11AM to 2PM), CJ Ryder and the Pastmasters (2:30PM to 5PM), and The Dogs of Society (6PM to 9PM). The Dogs are the Ultimate Elton John tribute band. If you're an Elton fan you don't want to miss this FREE show. </p><p><strong>Family Fun</strong><br>We'll have face painting fun for the kids.</p><p><strong>Free Admission</strong><br>The Dogs of Society are from St. Louis, and a typical price for their show would be $40 a ticket. <p>Something for everyone at the 29th annual Fairfax USA Days, June 24 and 25. June 24 features the band Shake Rattle & Roll, live outdoors at the Fairfax American Legion from 7 to 11PM. <p>Despite what our rushed society implies, late fall is a time to slow down and prepare for a long, rejuvenating winter rest.</p><p><br></p><p>During this class, we will explore the best practices for putting our gardens to bed and how these gardening activities can be applied to our lives for mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Seed-saving, weeding, mulching and cover-cropping will be practiced through fun, hands-on activities.</p><p><br></p><p>Organic methods will be learned; no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers will be discussed.</p><p><br></p><p>You are invited no matter your level of gardening experience. They can show up on your camping trip or on a walk through the park, and you may even notice them spring up occasionally in your yard or garden. Take a walk with us and identify some of these. Practice being humble with the umbels. Forage for Primitive Fire
<h2 data-hook="about">About the Event</h5><div data-hook="about-section-wrapper"><div data-hook="about-section-text"><p>Yeah, it’s easy to make a fire with newspaper and a lighter, but wouldn’t it be more fun to start that blaze by employing methods and materials our ancestors used for thousands of years? (And many foraged greens are more palatable in a hot soup.)</p><p><br></p><p>During this class, you will learn the basics of fire-starting using a bow drill. By the end of the night, you will be amazed at the artwork you have created on a 16x20 canvas! Food and Drink are additional, please no outside food or drink. Class is at 2:00pm on Sunday. (don't be late) Classes are limited in size, please make sure to buy your ticket to make sure you have a spot. Please note: Events are 18 and over only, events are for adults and will contain adult language and content. ***Cancellation policy: Cork N Canvas Iowa offers an art instruction and entertainment event that can be compared to a concert or theater event. We realize that unforeseen things happen, but we also would appreciate the time to offer the seat to others and fill the spot. Due to credit card fees, no refunds are issues, but you can move your ticket to another event 24-hours or more prior to your scheduled class. Due to the time it takes to prepare the class, NO store credit is given for last minute cancellations or no shows. Your ticket is fully transferable, however, and you may let someone of your own choosing use your ticket in your absence. Cancellations should be made by email only. If you need to cancel or move your reservation you must notify Cork n Canvas Iowa by email Cork.n.canvas.iowa@gmail.com 24 hours prior to the event, you are scheduled for in order to be eligible move into another class. In your email, please be sure to include; your name, location of the event, date of scheduled event, and date you wish to move to. *All cancelation issues must be resolved through email. * In the event of bad weather, snow day, ice, even floods, there is the chance that class could be canceled, please note you will receive an email, also the notice will be posted on Facebook, your tickets will be good for any upcoming non-sold out class. ****<br>*Please note the event/instruction lasts about 2 hours, depending on the painting and number of people attending. 9th Annual Marion Heritage Center Pancake Breakfast
<p>This is one of our two, annual fundraisers, serving all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, eggs, juice and coffee. Tickets are $8 for adults, while 12 and younger eat free. It will be held on Saturday, June 11 in the Marion Heritage Center & Museum, from 7:30 am until 11:30 am. Tickets can be purchased from the Center's board members (Jay Kacena, Vic Klopfenstein, Vicki Hughes, Vicki Barnes, Erik Miles, Nevin Meredith, or Mark Seidl), or at the Heritage Center, located at 590 Tenth Street (enter on the 6th Avenue door). tickets may also be purchased at the event.
