Red Cedar Chamber Music: Retracted Retirement

Brahms took himself out of retirement to write this piece. The great composer Johannes Brahms briefly retired from composition in 1890 at the age of 57. However, after hearing clarinetist Richard Muhlfeld perform, he came out of retirement to write some of his greatest works, including his Clarinet Trio, two Clarinet Sonatas, and his Clarinet Quintet. The Quintet, an imposing four-movement work, is considered a masterpiece of composition and is central to the clarinet repertory. It is no wonder that our long-time friend Christine Bellomy has been asking us to perform this work for more than three decades. The program also includes Jewish Sketches Op. 12 by Alexander Krein, a colorful and spirited three-movement work. Core ensemble members violinist Miera Kim and cellist Carey Bostian are joined by clarinetist Christine Bellomy, violinist Katie Wolfe, and violist Donghee Han in a program for string quartet and clarinet.

This series of concerts is made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts, Farmers State Bank, the City of Marion, AEGON Transamerica Foundation, the Giacoletto Foundation, the McIntyre Foundation, and the Grandon Foundation. Additional support comes from United Fire Group and Friends of Red Cedar Chamber Music.

Artist sponsorship is generously provided by Juanita Dennert.
2023-09-22 14:00:00 -050010/11/23 @ 1:00 p.m.Parkview Evangelical Free ChurchIowa City -
Never Dream Less Foundations 2nd Annual Reality Check

Never Dream less Foundations is a youth program dedicated to teaching kids to have organic fun without the use of electronics and learning social skills. The kids are able to use dance and arts to express themselves and we teach the kid to have organic fun with old school games with a twist. We try to build the kids up to bring out their confidence and build leadership skills. The Reality Check is a way to award the kids for their hard work and dedication, the kids grow in our program to be mentors, some have choreographed our dance routines, and many have just overcome their own struggles and so much more. There hard work has not gone unnoticed, and we want them to know that. The Reality Check will have many guest speakers and entertainers. We have also invited other community leaders and other programs to give awards to kids they believe should be recognized as well. This year's Reality Checks theme is mental Awareness, we have invited different professionals to speak on the matter and also some of the kids will share their experiences.
2023-09-12 15:00:00 -050010/14/23 @ 11:30 a.m.Cedar Rapids Public Library (Whipple Auditorium)Cedar Rapids, Iowa
