Live from the Artisan Studio: "Tesla"
<p>Three years ago, at Brucemore’s Cabaret in the Courtyard event, accomplished musical theater composer and lyricist Rob Nassif premiered 11 songs from a new musical he was working on about Nikola Tesla, with a story by Cavan Hallman. The Live From the Artisan Studio series is proud to share the first staged reading in front of a live audience. The cast will consist entirely of Iowa artists who will be in essence premiering this work.</p><p><strong>Performances:</strong></p><ul><li><a href="https://78351.blackbaudhosting.com/78351/tickets?tab=2&txobjid=32052a07-6a70-463a-9eed-9787f86036ef">Friday, June 3</a> at 7:00 p.m.</li><li><a href="https://78351.blackbaudhosting.com/78351/tickets?tab=2&txobjid=3dc25a5a-bfaa-415a-a06f-66f2eac5ee71">Saturday, June 4</a> at 7:00 p.m.</li></ul><p><strong>Location:</strong></p><ul><li>On the lawn of the backyard of the Artisan Studio</li></ul><p><strong>Admission:</strong></p><ul><li><em>$20 per adult</em></li><li><em>$10 per student</em></li><li><em>Brucemore donors receive a discount by “signing in” using the link in the upper right corner of the purchase tickets page. </em></li></ul><p><strong>About Robert Nassif</strong></p><p>Robert Lindsey Nassif is a composer/lyricist/librettist who has worked on Broadway, off-Broadway and regionally with Hal Prince, Stephen Sondheim, Arthur Miller, Carol Burnett, Joss Whedon and Disney Feature Animation.</p><p>Three years ago during Brucemore’s Cabaret in the Courtyard series, Rob premiered 11 songs from a new musical he was working on about Nikola Tesla, with a story by Cavan Hallman. During this Artisan Studio feature, Rob will give the first public reading of <em>Tesla </em>featuring a cast of extremely talented performers.</p><p>Nikola Tesla was an inventor, a visionary and perhaps a madman, who loved Sarah Bernhardt and also loved a pigeon. He saw electricity as a basic human right and battled Edison to make electricity affordable to everyone. He foresaw our modern world and in doing so, invented the future.</p><p><strong>About Cavan Hallman</strong><strong> </strong></p><p>Cavan Hallman’s plays have been performed at the National WWII Museum, National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, Strawdog Theatre, Donny’s Skybox, The Artistic Home, RhinoFest, KAPOOT, The Elm, Seattle Fringe, and Columbia College Chicago. His plays for young audiences have received over 15,000 performances in elementary schools across the country for an audience of over 5 million students and teachers. He has performed Off-Broadway, along with other roles in New York, Chicago, New Orleans, and Cork, Ireland, where he presented his solo show <em>Not Easily Forgotten</em>. Cavan’s fiction has been featured in the Southern Writers’ Reading Series and the Cane River Reading Series, and his theatrical essays have been featured in <em>PerformInk</em>.</p><p>Cavan is the founding Artistic Director for Mirrorbox Theatre, currently in its third season as the only company in Iowa that exclusively presents contemporary plays in their Iowa premieres. For Mirrorbox he has directed the Iowa premieres of <em>Exit Strategy</em>, <em>Red Speedo,</em> <em>Luna Gale, There Is A Happiness That Morning Is, Sender, and Orange Julius. </em>He serves as the producer for Mirrorbox’s nationally recognized online reading series, <em>Out the Box</em>, where he has directed over a dozen performances.</p><p>He is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. <p>Dueling Pianos of Andy and Mike are back for another night of FUN! Be ready for complete crowd participation where every attendee gets involved in the act. The show is full of music, comedy, hilarious crowd skits, dancing and more. Songs are request driven and range from the 1950's to today. Get your tickets quick for this fan favorite event.</p><p>TICKETS Cost for tickets are $20. A week before the event, tickets will go up to $40. This is a limited availability, ticketed event. Tickets are capped at 4 per person.</p><p>FOOD Food trucks will be onsite from 6-8p.m. Trucks will be announced at a later date. Fireside does not allow guests to bring outside food or beverages on premise. Violators of this policy may be asked to leave.</p><p>WHAT TO BRING We strongly encourage you to bring your own lawn chair & your favorite wine glass. We all know instinctively how we feel better with time outside with wild plants. Intentionally cultivate and grow that connection in this four-part series. Easy-to-understand, scientifically proven benefits will be covered alongside hands-on gardening techniques. Offering many of the benefits of meditation, gardening can be a powerful mindfulness practice. We will even be able to nibble on early harvests in the Garden of Eat’n!</p><p><strong>Foraging Self-Compassion</strong><br><strong>Friday, June 24, 4–6 p.m.</strong><br><em>Green Community Gardens at Prairiewoods</em><br>We will be on foraging self-compassion. This is for the perfectionist who desires to embrace the imperfect and experience more joy in the garden (and in life!). Learn the messy ways that nature thrives in the unpredictable world and the delicious abundance it offers in return. We will be foraging and tasting cultivated and wild plants, and noticing their non-judgmental natures.</p><p>The first online session is free, and each in-person session costs $20 (or register for the four-part series for $50 by calling 319-395-6700).
