<p>It is time to get cozy, snuggle down, and read a good book. </p><p>Our winter reading program starts January 4th, 2021 and lasts until February 13th, 2021.</p><p>This winter reading challenge is for all ages. Your goal is to get to 500 points. Each chapter book, audio book, or e-book is worth 125 points. For our younger readers: each picture book is worth 25 points. </p><p>Don't forget about the activities. There are 6 winter trivia questions. If you answer them correctly you will get 25 points. <p><strong>Preserving Your Family Treasures</strong></p><p><br></p><p>Your family's history probably includes many things other than vital statistics. Do you have documents, family heirlooms or other mementoes that you want to preserve for future generations? At our January 30th meeting Giselle Simon from the University of Iowa Libraries Preservation and Conservation Department will present <strong>Preserving Your Family Treasures</strong>. Giselle will share how to store materials, including textiles, photographs, papers, books and scrapbooks. Don't know where to find materials to use for safely storing those important items? Giselle will provide resources for obtaining supplies for proper storage and preservation.</p><p><br></p><p><strong><em>Giselle Simón </em></strong>is the Conservator at the University of Iowa Libraries and Adjunct Faculty at the University of Iowa Center for the Book. She began book conservation work at Northwestern University Library in 1992. From 2001–2012 she worked at the Newberry Library in Chicago, first as Collections Conservator and then as Director of Conservation Services. She has taught bookbinding and conservation classes at Columbia College Chicago Center for the Book and Paper Arts and collections care courses at the University of Chicago’s Graham School. She is a Co-Director for Paper and Book Intensive, a working sabbatical for paper and book practitioners.</p><p><br>Everyone is welcome to participate in the Zoom meeting, which will begin at 9:30 a.m. Jan 30th. <p>Do you like to volunteer, like Genealogy, or History? Give a little of your time, and join us on the first Monday of each month (unless a holiday, or bad weather)</p><p>The purpose for this day is to invite volunteers to work on library projects to preserve our precious resources. We are not open to the public., this is not a research day, but a day to help organize the library. Incoming! Perseverance at Mars
<p>The Mars 2020 rover, Perseverance, launched from Kennedy Space Center on July 30, 2020. For the past 6 months the rover has been silently cruising through space and is due to land on Mars on February 18, 2021.
