<p>Gilded Pear Gallery is pleased to present <em>Open Air</em>, a two-person exhibit of landscapes by Iowa natives: David Gordinier and Kristin Stoeffler.</p><p><br></p><p>This show brings together the work of artists who illustrate a particular style of moments in Midwest scenery. Both artists appear to have romantic or idealized renderings of these realistic vistas. The space between the sky and the earth is vast. Land reaches out to the endless horizon and the foliage seem to breathe the air that chase the clouds in that moment. Adventure and solace can be found in these paintings; the hunt for the cloud you could cut with a knife, the well-traveled path highlighted by the afternoon sun, or the colorful field within soft rolling terrain. The works themselves vary from the very large punchy style of Kristin’s and the mid-sized detailed serenity of David’s.</p><p><br></p><p>When talking about her work, Kristin mentions “My father-in-law put a bright yellow parasol on an old Oliver tractor and taught me how to rake hay, and I paint hay differently now.” She creates paintings that allude to surreal drama and heightened saturation. “The fields look different from the seat of a tractor. Rows look different after you’ve raked them yourself,” she explains. <p>Revival Theatre Company is kicking off this year’s holiday season with a festive and heart-warming fundraiser, Christmas With Love. The event will take place at the National Czech and Slovak Library and Museum on Friday, December 13th. </p><p>Festivities begin at 6:30 with a mix and mingle social hour with cash bar and silent auction. The performance begins at 7:30 and will feature many favorite local RTC performers. Seeing IS Believing: Visio Divina at Prairiewoods
<p>Come together in a circle of trust to integrate imagination, learning and prayer through the practice of <em>Visio Divina,</em> or holy seeing, at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) on Tuesday mornings. A contemplative practice of praying the Scriptures while viewing visual art, Visio Divina involves listening to the word of God, viewing art, pondering God’s message, letting our hearts speak and resting in God. Various works of art are used for the sessions, including pieces from <em>The Saint John's Bible,</em> professional artists and local artists. The sessions, facilitated by Lois Ocenosak, stand alone, so we invite you to attend whenever available. The cost is $5 per session.
