Day of Self Renewal at Prairiewoods
<p>Find complete rest and relaxation for your mind, body and spirit during the monthly Day of Self Renewal at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha). This day of pampering is facilitated by Angie Pierce Jennings one Monday a month and features two 40-minute holistic services of your choice, guided meditation, singing bowl prayer, a private guest room, access to walking trails and all that Prairiewoods has to offer, a fresh lunch and hours of free time. (Choose from massage, head and shoulder massage, reflexology, healing touch, spiritual direction, dream processing, yoga, chair yoga or guided nature experience.) You can check into your room as early as 8 a.m., and the program begins promptly at 8:30 in the Center. The cost is $95 and includes guided meditation, singing bowl prayer, two holistic services, a room for the day and lunch. Registration, a non-refundable deposit of $25 and your top three service choices are required at least five days in advance. June Silent Directed Retreat at Prairiewoods
<p>Invite yourself into a week of sacred space, solitude, rest, peace and prayer. Tap the love of all of creation amid the deep silence of 70 acres of prairie and woodland at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha). Deepen your awareness of life’s gifts. Regain a sense of balance. Learn to be still to live in the moment and to deepen your relationship with God, with yourself, with others and with Earth. Each day affords opportunity for healthy meals, lots of quiet personal reflection and an hour-long session with a spiritual director, who will help you sense and cite the movement of the Spirit in your life. An optional centering prayer session closes each day. Holistic services, such as massage, healing touch and reflexology, are available for an additional cost. Silent Directed Retreats are ideal for anyone who desires quiet time away from over-stimulation to return to one’s center, to learn the art of deep listening, to recover a sense of wonder and gratitude for life, and to fall in love again with all of creation. This weeklong retreat (offered both June 9–15 and July 7–13) is facilitated by Betty Daugherty, FSPA; Ann Jackson, PBVM; Lucille Winnike, FSPA; and guest spiritual directors. 15th Annual Courage Ride
<h5><span>Supports the Sarcoma Cancer Research Program at the </span><span>University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center</span></h5><p><span><strong>August 17, 2019</strong></span></p><p><span><strong>New Location: Big Grove Brewery & Taproom, Iowa City</strong></span></p><p><span>Pedal south of Iowa City along the scenic Iowa River to Hills, Iowa before heading west through Riverside, Iowa towards the gently rolling countryside near Kalona, Iowa. You will enjoy riding past Amish homesteads and over old stagecoach routes before returning to Big Grove for a victory party!<br></span></p><p><span>Courage Ride</span><span> is an annual bike ride honoring the life of Seth Bailey, a courageous young man who died at age 25 from sarcoma cancer in 2003. His parents, Jackie and Tom Bailey partnered with Bicyclists of Iowa City (BIC) to create a ride that all levels of cyclists can enjoy! All proceeds from the Courage Ride go to the University of Iowa Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center Sarcoma Research Program. Since the first ride in 2005, Courage Ride has raised over $510,000 for sarcoma cancer research.</span><span>To date, Courage Ride proceeds have seeded numerous sarcoma cancer research grants. Many of those grants have evolved into promising, larger scale research studies. This newfound momentum in the Sarcoma Research Program has created a lot of enthusiasm among researchers, investigators, doctors and cancer care providers at the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center. The results are leading to new advancements, new partnerships and attracting some of the best research talent in the nation.
