Abstract Ideas: Abstract Art from the Collection
<p>Culled from CRMA’s collection of works created after 1950, Abstract Ideas explores the potential of abstraction in the hands of post-World War II artists. In some cases, the subject matter has been only slightly abstracted, diverging only a little from the way they appear in nature. In other cases, artists have moved completely away from any recognizable object in pursuit of more emotional or intellectual goals. In all cases, however, artists maintained their relationship to and dialogue with the fundamental properties of art such as balance, form, line, color, and rhythm. Investigating the various degrees of abstraction found in modern paintings and sculpture, this exhibition presents a diverse group of works, each of which operates on different emotional and intellectual levels.</p> 2022-07-15 16:00:00 -0500

Dick Pinney: Jack of All Trades
<p>Dick Pinney (1924-1996) was a long-time favorite in the Cedar Rapids art scene. Accomplished in many media, this former creative director for Stamats Communications and Coe College vice president was perhaps most famous for the numerous carved wood assemblages that he created, usually as commissions for area business leaders. Paintings, drawings, ceramics, assemblages, constructions, games, and puppets were all part of Pinney’s repertoire. This exhibition, timed to coincide with the 25<sup>th</sup> anniversary of Pinney’s passing in 1996, celebrates the artist’s diverse and wide-reaching artwork.</p> 2022-07-15 16:00:00 -0500

Entrance is on the right side of the building when you’re facing it.<br>We’ll be painting “Mer n’ Der” on a 12”x16” canvas. All materials will be provided. Feel free to BYO beer or wine or grab some local food and bring it up.<br>There are 30 spots available. $30 per painter. No experience needed; I paint along with you step by step. It’s less about making a masterpiece, and more about getting out of the house for a dang good time! Piggie is not worried at all! She’s even happier and more excited than usual because she and Gerald are invited to a party hosted by the Squirrelles, three singing squirrels who love to have a good time. Fill the Shelves for Veterans
<p>As summer arrives, our donations to our pantry is down. We are looking for the community to step up and help fill the shelves for Veterans in need. On Saturday, July 16th, from 8am-12pm, stop by the Freedom Foundation and drop off items to fill our shelves. Pinch, Coil and Slab Mythological Creatures 3-day Summer Camps for ages 7-15
<p><strong>NEW FOR 2022–3 Day –Pinch, Coil & Slab Theme Weeks </strong></p><p>These 3-day camps are designed for ages 7-14. Students will spend this camp learning basic hand building skills to include: coiling, pinching and slab-building. In addition to being exposed to a working pottery studio, each student will receive individualized instructions according to their interest and experience. Campers will add colors to their creations by painting with special glazes and slips, to make their project truly one of a kind. One project will be created each day. In other cases, artists have moved completely away from any recognizable object in pursuit of more emotional or intellectual goals. In all cases, however, artists maintained their relationship to and dialogue with the fundamental properties of art such as balance, form, line, color, and rhythm. Accomplished in many media, this former creative director for Stamats Communications and Coe College vice president was perhaps most famous for the numerous carved wood assemblages that he created, usually as commissions for area business leaders. Paintings, drawings, ceramics, assemblages, constructions, games, and puppets were all part of Pinney’s repertoire.
