CRMA Doodlebugs via Zoom: Grant's Gothic Glass

Grant Wood’s most famous artwork is “American Gothic,” named for the pointy window behind the farmer and lady in the painting. But did you know Grant also created windows? See some of his stained glass work and then make a gothic-style “window” you can hang in your home!

Supplies: To do the art project along with Miss Erin, you’ll need these materials at the ready: Plastic zippie bags, permanent markers like Sharpies (washable or water-based markers won’t work on plastic), pencil & scratch paper, tape. If you don’t want to use permanent markers, you can also do this project using washable markers on regular copy paper, or any thinner paper that lets light shine through when you hold it up to a window.

https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5695519009?pwd=NFpuVEJEOUdNZXNJWUY0ZjVKRE5ydz09

Meeting ID: 569 551 9009

Passcode: Doodlebugs
2021-01-27 11:30:00 -06002/26/2110:30 a.m.Cedar Rapids Museum of ArtCedar Rapids -

Meet the Author - Karen Roth

Join us Via Zoom!

Meeting ID: 845 8062 0870
Passcode: 051097

Karen Roth is a writer, teacher and history enthusiast who loves to connect with other readers and history aficionados. She is the author of two novels set in the narratives of Cedar Rapids, Found On 16th Avenue and My Portion Forever. “My parents came of age during the Depression and World War II, and their stories of those times are very much part of what shapes our reality today,” she says. “When you start delving into the history you find so many connections, so many amazing details, that help us understand the world we live in now. I love the way that a good narrative – a historical novel – makes those times living and real.”

Educated at Regis High School, Coe College, and the University of Texas, Karen now lives with her husband, Vic, in San Antonio, Texas. She comes back to visit Cedar Rapids as often as she can.
3/02/216:30 p.m.The History CenterCedar Rapids -

Holistic Healing for Educators & Classrooms with Prairiewoods, Credit 1

Have the stressors of teaching, the pandemic, hybrid-learning, and daily life affected your personal happiness and well-being? Have you experienced difficulty finding time to engage in self-care activities that may help? In this one-hour credit course via Zoom, learn “microinterventions” to use daily to reset your brain and empower you to fully show up with a compassionate heart toward yourself, your students, your family and the world. Through practices of mindfulness, self-compassion and neuroscience, begin to restore holistic healing and build resiliency, joy, optimism and curiosity, leading to health and well-being. This online course with Prairiewoods is facilitated by Kim Seward, RN, BSN, CMI, and Ann Jackson, PBVM. A text, Practicing Presence, is included in the registration fee. This first credit hour will be followed by credits 2 and 3 in the summer and fall of 2021. Credit 2 (June 23–25) will offer practices of mindfulness, self-compassion and neuroscience to develop a personal classroom toolkit for use with students. Deepening your own mindfulness and self-compassion skills will also be explored. Credit 3 (fall 2021) will invite collaboration to review outcomes, provide feedback and cite next steps. The cost is $35 per credit hour, paid to Grant Wood Area Education Agency. (Due to a generous donation by the Sisters of the Presentation, Dubuque, all additional costs will be covered!) Soul Care: Creative Arts Grief Support Group with Prairiewoods

Take time to connect with others in grief and engage the creative spark. Jamie Siela, LISW, and Christine Wagner-Hecht, MDiv, from Unity Point Hospice facilitate this monthly grief group open to anyone grieving loss through death. On the third Wednesday of each month, come together on Zoom to explore a different creative art medium. In March we will make a peaceful pillowcase. Sometimes we need a reminder of calm and safety before going to bed at night or first thing in the morning when we rise. We will use our time together to decorate a rest easy pillowcase with pictures that make us feel safe and calm, positive affirmations and memory symbols. We will meet online via Zoom. Group art kits will be mailed one week prior to the session, so registration is required by the previous Tuesday. This group is free and includes all art supplies.
