First Date: A New Musical
<p><em>When they are set up on a blind date by their well-meaning friends, Casey and Aaron will have to sing and dance their way through the pitfalls and perils of the dreaded first date in this musical comedy fresh from Broadway! Can this couple turn what could be a dating disaster into something special before the check arrives?</em><br><br>With a contemporary rock score, <em>First Date</em> gleefully pokes fun at the mishaps and mistakes of blind dates and gives hope that there could be that one perfect moment. FIRST DATE is written by Austin Winsberg, with music and lyrics by Alan Zachary & Michael Weiner. Metta Yoga with Prairiewoods
<p>Experience the healing powers of meditative yoga via Zoom with Prairiewoods. Join us as we link our movements with our breath and cultivate strength, flexibility and relaxation through regular hatha-style yoga classes. RYT-200 Hour Certified Yoga Alliance Instructors Carla Brems and Heather English offer Gentle/Beginner’s Yoga (Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30–10:30 a.m.). People of all fitness levels and abilities are encouraged to participate whenever available. Carla Brems enjoys teaching hatha-style yoga so that all feel welcome and safe to appreciate and enjoy the physical, mental and spiritual benefits that yoga can bring. Heather English began practicing yoga for the mental health benefits and became a yoga instructor in order to share these amazing benefits with others. Heather is inspired by the potential that a regular yoga practice has for impacting so many areas of life. Virtual Thursday Forum: What’s in Your Water? Water Quality in Iowa (and Beyond)
<p dir="ltr">Maty St. Clair, Ben Peterson Professor of Chemistry</p><p dir="ltr">This Thursday Forum will explore the issue of water quality in Iowa. The forum will begin with a brief introduction to the history of water technology and regulation in the United States, including the Clean Water Act (1972) and Safe Drinking Water Act (1974). As a primarily agricultural state, Iowa’s most significant water quality issues include excess nutrients and bacteria. We will discuss the impacts of those pollutants on human health and the environment, examine efforts to assess the problem (including our own Coe Water Quality Lab) and review a recent lawsuit by Des Moines Water Works against drainage districts in northwestern Iowa. Virtual Thursday Forum: What’s in Your Water? Water Quality in Iowa (and Beyond)
<p dir="ltr">Maty St. Clair, Ben Peterson Professor of Chemistry</p><p dir="ltr">This Thursday Forum will explore the issue of water quality in Iowa. The forum will begin with a brief introduction to the history of water technology and regulation in the United States, including the Clean Water Act (1972) and Safe Drinking Water Act (1974). As a primarily agricultural state, Iowa’s most significant water quality issues include excess nutrients and bacteria. We will discuss the impacts of those pollutants on human health and the environment, examine efforts to assess the problem (including our own Coe Water Quality Lab) and review a recent lawsuit by Des Moines Water Works against drainage districts in northwestern Iowa. We also will assess the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy, Iowa’s plan to reduce the impact of its contribution to the Gulf of Mexico’s “dead zone.” Finally, we will take a look at other headline-grabbing water-quality issues with contaminants such as lead, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS, also known as “forever chemicals”) and viruses, with an eye toward anticipating future developments.</p> 2021-03-25 23:58:00 -05003/25/2112:00 a.m.Coe CollegeCedar Rapids -

<p>Give your plant or keys a fun new home by creating a pot made to look like your favorite animal. </p><p>Date: Saturday March 27<sup>th</sup>, 2021</p><p>Time: 10:30–11:30 AM </p><p>Cost: $18/person </p><p><strong>COVID-19 precautions</strong>: in the studio we are observing all COVID-19 precautions by maintaining distance, limiting the studio to 10 people at a time, providing several hand washing stations and sanitizing all surfaces regularly. Anyone that enters the studio must wear a mask. All ceramic wheel workshops are on Mondays, when the studio is closed to the public. All one-day hand building workshops will be held in our dedicated S.T.E.A.M classroom in the Cherry Building. Join us as we link our movements with our breath and cultivate strength, flexibility and relaxation through regular hatha-style yoga classes. RYT-200 Hour Certified Yoga Alliance Instructors Carla Brems and Heather English offer Gentle/Beginner’s Yoga (Mondays and Thursdays from 9:30–10:30 a.m.). Treasuring Our Trees, Part 3
<p>Spring is the time for new life—for planting, for watering and for active hope! Following the huge loss of our arbor-elders in the Aug. 10 derecho, we have been doing the hard interior work of grieving, going deeper and learning. In spring, we will join in the communal celebration of planting and welcoming new life! We come together as a community once more to lean into the role of courageous visionaries, imagining and planting a whole new generation of baby trees, caring for the sacred Earth—including the soil, air and water—through ritual, song, poetry and prayer. Please join us as we sing songs of joy once again with the exultant Earth and ritualize the welcome of our beloved baby trees and the resplendence of the trees we have all around us!
