Summer Gallery Walk

Three of us have participated in a weekly art group since 2020. The pandemic intensified our art making and our connection to one another. Our work has been exhibited in various venues over the years, but we primarily create for our own personal satisfaction. Four very different styles will be on display which will make for interesting contrasts in size, media, and style. Fine art will be displayed in the Assembly Room. From Handel to holiday favorites, country to swing, traditional folk music to pop and Broadway standards, a concert by the Voices of Experience promises something for everyone. Iowa City New Horizons Band

The program was founded in 1991 by Dr. Roy Ernst, a professor of music education at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. The New Horizons Band Program is based on the belief that everyone, regardless of age or musical experience, can learn to play a musical instrument. It provides a supportive, non-competitive environment for adults to learn and play music together. Open to anyone over the age of 50, regardless of musical experience, the program typically consists of group lessons, rehearsals, and performances. Participants can choose from a variety of instruments, including woodwinds, brass, percussion, and strings. It also offers classes on music theory and history, opportunities for socializing and community engagement. Fee: $45; pay Iowa City New Horizons Band. You Can Draw (Yes, You Can!)

This class explains how to see things as basic shapes and turn those shapes into drawings, how light works and how to draw it, and how to create that illusion of three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface. We will explore some different drawing techniques in a variety of projects. Repeat students welcome. </p><p>Required text: Your Artist's Brain, Carl Purcell (2010).
