VOTING RIGHTS COALITION PRIMARY CANDIDATE FORUMS

Cedar Rapids newly formed Voting Rights Coalition is sponsoring candidate forums beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 21 for three contested primaries of the June 7 voting - State Senate District 37, (D) State Senate District 39, (D) and Linn County Supervisor District 1 (D). Candidates in the Republican State Senate 42 race were invited to participate but declined due to a similar Republican forum in Benton County also on the 21^st.

The forums were organized for the Coalition by the Linn County League of Women Voters and will follow the League non-partisan forum format. Voting Rights Coalition members include Advocates for Social Justice, League of Women Voters of Linn County, CoeVotes, the local chapters of the League of United Latin American Citizens and NAACP, Mount Mercy University, Indivisible Iowa and Sunrise Movement.

The forums will be in Beems Auditorium of the Cedar Rapids Public Library, 450 5^th Ave SE:      

10 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.  Iowa Senate District 39 Democratic Primary - Liz Bennett and Joe Zahorik

11 a.m.-11:45 a.m.  Iowa State Senate District 37 Democratic Primary - Molly Donahue and Austin Frerick

12 p.m. -12:45 p.m.  Linn County Supervisor District 1 Democratic Primary - Breanna Oxley, James Houser, and Kirsten Running Marquardt (invited but not confirmed.)
