Event Description

Where do the Arts and Science meet? The core ensemble is joined by violinist Alex Norris and violist Donghee Han in a program of string quartet music by composer–in–residence Michael Kimber. Have you ever been curious why stringed instruments were engineered the way they were? Have you ever wondered why harmony, melody, and rhythm developed the way they did? Have you ever wondered how the art of sound relates to the visual arts? We explore the physics of sound through harmonics, the relationship of color and texture in music and visual art through a piece inspired by art works by Monet, van Gogh, Kandinsky, and Wood, AND tell the story of western music from 100 AD to 2022 through music and words. Projected images of art and architecture enhance this trip through time for a truly multi-media experience. Young and old will be awed by the wonder of nature and human accomplishment.
