Fire Safety for Seniors

Attendees will also learn the basics needed to select and properly utilize a fire extinguisher in their home, with the opportunity for all to participate in a hands-on live fire extinguisher demonstration at the end. International Speed Friendshipping
<p><strong>Tuesday, October 3, 4:00 pm </strong></p><p><strong>Location: Assembly Room</strong></p><p>In honor of the United Nations International Day of Older Persons, celebrated each year on October 1, ICSC will host an afternoon of speed "friendshipping" with an emphasis on making international connections. Everyone is welcome, and we’re extending a special invitation to those who were born outside of the United States or lived abroad for a number of years. Using a speed dating format (but for making friends rather than dating), participants will have a chance to meet and chat with community members, have some fun, and maybe even take the first step in creating new and lasting friendships. Dream Group at Prairiewoods
<p>“Dreams come in the service of wholeness and health,” writes Jeremy Taylor. Dreams can open you into your inner landscape and help you to grow spiritually. Working and playing with your dreams can bring transformation and inner healing. This is an eight-month series (Oct. 4, Nov. 1, Dec. 6, Jan. 3, Feb. 7, March 6, April 3 and May 1) at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha). As a participant, you will be exposed to a Jungian approach to deciphering your dreams. As a prerequisite, you must have some dream workshop experience (at Prairiewoods or elsewhere) that has introduced you to working with dreams individually or in a group. Facilitator Karen Sindelar, MA, LMT, holds a master’s degree in applied psychology with an emphasis in Jungian studies. Karen has been an active participant in dream groups since the 1980s. The cost is $160 for the eight-month series, whether present or not (payable in advance or $20 at each session). Stand Up For Peace
<p>The Social Justice Committee of St. Ludmila Catholic Church in partnership with the St. Ludmila Religious Education Program will be hosting a special presentation on Group Violence Intervention,<em> Stand Up for</em> <em>Peace, </em>on Wednesday, October 4th in the Social Hall (church lower level...211 21st Avenue SW.)
