Soldering Sampler
<p>This workshop involves the fundamentals of soldering. Learn and hone a variety of soldering skills—connecting an open jump ring, adding a ring to another piece, and more. Practice both sweat and spot soldering. Leave with a variety of samples and a new set of skills. No experience necessary. Memorial Day - Service
<p><strong>Memorial Day</strong> is an American federal holiday, and it lands on May 29th this year. Memorial Day is a way to honor military members who died in the line of duty. <strong>Join the Cedar Rapids community at 10 am, May 29</strong><sup><strong>th</strong></sup> for an outdoor traditional Memorial Day observance that includes an opening prayer, live patriotic music, presentation of the Colors, guest speaker, volley salute, and more. The local area Metro Veterans’ Council facilitates this program each year, with logistics assistance from the Veterans Memorial Commission.</p><p><u>What:</u> Memorial Day Service.</p><p><u>Who</u>: Metro Veterans’ Council. "My Wellbeing" Workshop: Free Two-Session Series
<p>“What About Me? My Wellbeing” is a free, two-part educational workshop series held at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood: 520 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids. Each workshop begins at 9:30 a.m. and lasts approximately 45-60 minutes. </p><p>Session one will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24th. Session two will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 31st, 2023.</p><p>This research-based program is facilitated by a Human Sciences Specialist in Family Wellbeing with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and will cover topics such as: taking time for oneself, relationships, and physical health. </p><p>You’re going to learn some new information, but what’s more important is that the program allows you to take time to focus on you. <p>Join Anna Holland, associate curator of the Iowa Women’s Archives, for a free virtual lunchtime talk on June 1 at noon. While many collections in IWA contain clear documentation of the struggle for LGBTQ+ rights, these archival sources also reveal heartwarming instances of queer joy and happiness.</p><p>Holland’s presentation will share a more in-depth investigation of queer life in Iowa City as represented in the Iowa Women’s Archives, and will discuss the archival value that makes this evidence of happiness indispensable in collecting Iowa’s history.</p><p><br></p><p><em>Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events.
