Earth Week Concert: Peter Mayer

Minnesota Songwriter Comes to Cedar Rapids in Celebration of Earth Week

Peter Mayer Plays Songs About the Earth at Peoples Church

Minnesota songwriter Peter Mayer will play a concert to benefit Peoples Church Unitarian Universalist on Sat., Apr. 15 at 7 p.m.

WHAT: Earth Week Concert

WHO: Peter Mayer; Deep Dish Divas (opening act)

WHEN: Sat., Apr. 15, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Peoples Church Unitarian Universalist, 4980 Gordon Ave. NW Cedar Rapids, IA

COST: $20 in advance for adults, $15 for kids, $25 at door OR $20 if you bring a friend!
TICKETS: bit.ly/MayerUU or PeoplesUU.org

Minnesota's Peter Mayer has been singing and songwriting full-time for over 20 years, performing in venues across the United States and beyond. He writes songs for a small planet--songs that celebrate life on earth and the mysterious and wondrous fact of our existence--songs about the vast cosmos that surrounds us and how we are a part of it all.

In his popular song “Blue Boat Home,” he sings, “I give thanks to the waves upholding me, hail the great winds urging me on, greet the infinite sea before me, sing the sky my sailor's song. I was born upon the fathoms. Never harbor or port have I known. The wide universe is the ocean I travel, and the earth is my blue boat home.”

Peter Mayer’s music has been recognized nationally with the Host of the Planetary Society's Planetary Radio Mat Kaplan commenting, “I have a thing for science-savvy songs and singers. They're out there, but no one I've found—no one—delivers the goods as well as Pete. So much of his music captures the joy, wonder and awe that drive every great scientist I know. Pete's passion, beautiful mind and playful soul are in all his tunes.”

Concert proceeds benefit Peoples Church Unitarian Universalist, a congregation that is invested in the environment and environmental justice, and one of the first churches in Cedar Rapids to install solar panels. The concert kicks off a week of events with Peoples Church related to the environment. The Principles of Unitarian Universalism include “respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.”

Opening for Mayer will be local favorite, string trio Opening Act: Deep Dish Divas. They’ll dish up an eclectic mix of music including vintage songs from the 20s, 30s & 40s, folk, swing, a cappella, traditional tunes & more--featuring original arrangements and tight, 3-part vocal harmonies!
2023-02-28 21:00:00 -06004/15/237:00 p.m.Peoples Church Unitarian UniversalistCedar Rapids -
