Winterland’s 200th show at the Ideal Theater and Bar

Iowa's favorite Grateful Dead tribute band!

-----Event Description-----

Specializing in the Grateful Dead’s catalog and sound from 1969 through the late 1970s, Winterland pulls you back in time to a place where the Dead’s rhythm and blues, folk and country roots were still deeply embedded in their music even as they explored the wild and experimental outer reaches of psychedelic rock.

More importantly, though, Winterland channels the music of the Grateful Dead with uncanny authenticity, a sublime fidelity to the Dead’s musicianship, tonality and, in particular, emotional relationship with the audience. Walk into any given Winterland show and witness firsthand: every face is radiant, reflecting the elation of sharing — with the band and with each other — the pure, innovative, beautifully complex music of the Dead.

This interconnectedness, which breaks down the barriers between people and music and allows everyone to become collaborators in an elusive web of fleeting, living art, represents an essential unity of musical experience. In other words, what Winterland has attained has proven to be a microcosm of the feat that the Grateful Dead of the late ‘60s to the late ‘70s achieved and escalated to a full-fledged cultural phenomenon. It is a thing of subtle and wily magic, not to be missed.
2023-01-26 11:00:00 -06002/25/238:00 a.m.Ideal Theater and BarCedar Rapids -

Art Exhibit: "Ancient Healing Properties" by Mary Zeran

This exhibition marks a turning point in Zeran’s artwork- an introduction to her ceramic sculptures and a fresh path in her paintings; working in monoprinting, collage, and her signature acrylic work on duralar. She says of the new work: ” I create places of happiness. Landscapes where you can rest your soul. Not any old places, but locations unknown; full of delicious color, long expanses, odd quirky shapes, and patterns. Not linear moments, but an abstracted experience you can’t quite define.” Mary Zeran was raised in a family of women artists whose textiles, embroidery, and woodcarvings, existed as their visual language; enigmatic shapes and forms were their words. Each time she picks up a brush or scissors she immerses herself in the language of her family, which brings her ever closer to their traditions, histories, and stories. Mary Zeran received her B.F.A and M.F.A from University of Iowa. She was born in Iowa City in 1964 and now lives and works in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is the recipient of several awards and honors and her works are in numerous public and private collections as well as many notable corporate collections. Her collage works have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad including the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art; Sherry Leedy Contemporary Art, in Kansas City; SOIL Gallery in Seattle; Higher Art Gallery in Michigan; and Chaing Mai University in Chaing Mai, Thailand.

www.gildedpeargallery.com/ancient-healing
2023-02-06 17:00:00 -06002/06/2310:00 a.m.Gilded Pear GalleryCedar Rapids -
