Event Description

Dr. Travis Lacy, assistant professor of Religious Studies at Mount Mercy University, will present "Becoming Yourself, Becoming Like Christ: Edith Stein on the Task of Formation" at 10 a.m Saturday, Feb. 10, at St. Pius X Parish, 4949 Council St. NE, Cedar Rapids. The presentation is free and open to the public.

St. Edith Stein--Carmelite nun, philosopher, and martyr--wrote extensively on the topic of education, or in her terms, formation. Dr. Lacy will examine how Stein's extensive writings on education emphasize the depth and dignity of the human person, each person's unique and unreplaceable individuality, and the relationship between education and spiritual formation. "For Stein," he said, "we become most fully ourselves--must unique and individuated--the more we are conformed to Christ."
