Event Description

Cedar Amateur Astronomers welcome Astronomical League VP Charles Allen for a free public event Saturday, April 27 at 8 PM. Mr. Allen will discuss the mind-blowing vastness of space in his presentation entitled "Perspectives on Distance."

What distances are observable with a telecope? How far can we see and how big can it be? What is the achievable distance humans can travel in space flight?

As a special bonus unrelated to his presentation, Mr. Allen will display 100 chemical elements in his safe display cases for guests to see. This should be an amazing evening!

After the presentation, and weather opermitting, Cedar Amateur Astronomers will be operating several of our large telescopes to view the wonders of our Iowa night skies. If you have never had the chance to see galaxies, nebulae, starclusters, planets etc., the Eastern Iowa Observatory and Learning Center is the place to go. Sky tours will also be held in the outdoor planetarium.

Our public nights are free and open to everyone with no reservation needed. This event is in person but also available on Zoom if you can't make it out. Go to our events page for more information and a link to the Zoom.
