Event Description
Participants will learn the history and process of cyanotype printing. A demonstration on creating hand drawn and cut film & using plants and objects for imagery, exposing and developing the prints using the sun will be shown. The wide variety of materials which can be used to produce imagery for cyanotype include analog film, hand drawn film, stencils, 3 D objects, and classically, pressed plants and flowers. Cyanotypes will be exposed by the UV rays of the sun and developed in water. Participants will produce a small series of cyanotype prints. Bringing your own materials for exposure is encouraged but not required.
Artist Bio: May Roded is a printmaker, photographer and educator from Los Angeles, CA. She is a current candidate at the University of Iowa perusing her MFA in Printmaking. May has over 4 years of teaching experience, having taught at Otis College of Art, Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA and managed a Printmaking Community Shop in Santa Monica, CA. Her personal work explores themes of time, memory and identity through printmaking and cyanotype practices.
