Event Description
Hwy 30 Diner December 9, 2025 6:30 p.m. This presentation explores the history of Southwest Cedar Rapids through the landmarks that have shaped the community. From the quiet grounds of Linwood and Czech National Cemeteries to the bustling industries of Kings Material and Douglas Starch Works, each site reveals a piece of the city’s past. We’ll look back at the role of 6th Street SW as a vital corridor, the long-standing tradition of racing and events at Hawkeye Downs, and the surprising transformation of Mount Trashmore into a recreational landmark. Together, these stories paint a vivid picture of the people, businesses, and places that made Southwest Cedar Rapids what it is today. First round of drinks are on The History Center! Tickets $20 per person. Dinner is not included in the ticket price. Doors Open 6:00 p.m. Program Starts at 6:30 p.m. Bite of History is sponsored by: Bankers Trust.Registration
