Event Description

Join Cedar Amateur Astronomers as we welcome Sanjay Chepuri, Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Iowa. Mr. Chepuri will give a presentation entitled: "Probing the Earth's Magnetosphere through Energetic Particles"

The magnetosphere is made of the Earth's magnetic field and embedded inside of the sun's field. It is a complex system surrounding the Earth and protecting us from solar radiation. In this presentation, Chepuri will talk about the magnetospheric system and especially focus on energetic particles and how we can use them to track some of the most important processes that occur in the magnetosphere.

Sanjay Chepuri is in his fourth year as a Ph.D. student at the University of Iowa. He works with Dr. Allison Jaynes to study energetic particles in the Earth's magnetosphere using spacecraft data, primarily from NASA's Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission.

Weather permitting, after the presentation club members will be operating several large telescopes to view the wonderful Iowa night skies!
