Event Description

The History Center's Jenny Thielman will delve into the captivating tale of the area adjacent to downtown Cedar Rapid, once dubbed “Mansion Hill” along Third, Second, and First Avenues SE, were stately residences once stood; the Galena of Eastern Iowa.  Today, the History Center proudly resides within one of the few surviving homes.
Jenny will unravel the narrative of how this picturesque neighborhood was transformed into “Auto Row” in the wake of the arrival of the Lincoln Highway in 1913.  Many “Auto Row” structures survive today.  Jenny will include updates on the evolution of the area continues with the expanding MedQuater District.
