Event Description

John Kabat-Zinn writes, “Meditation is the cultivation of that gesture of welcoming unflinchingly whatever arises—of welcoming it wholeheartedly into awareness.” Are you interested in developing a mindfulness meditation practice, or in renewing the practice you began months or years ago, or in deepening the practice you have now? Join facilitator Chris Klug and Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) for an online series as we learn and practice mindfulness meditation as described by Jon Kabat-Zinn in his book Mindfulness for Beginners. Some of the topics to be explored include what mindfulness meditation is and isn’t; the central role of intention and attitude in meditation practice; posture: standing, sitting, lying down or walking; silence; working with physical and emotional pain; breathing and the body; and thinking and thoughts. The class will meet online weekly (March 20, March 27, April 10, April 17, April 24 & May 1) for 90 minutes for practice, instructions and sharing (optional), with a daylong in-person retreat day (April 2). Participants will need access to Mindfulness for Beginners. This series is offered as a partnership between Prairiewoods and Cedar Memorial. The cost is $130 for the six-week Zoom series, and a reduced fee is available for those of limited means. For more information or to register, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.
