Event Description

On Saturday April 6, 2024 the Solon High School Art Club's Empty Bowls Luncheon to End Hunger will be held from 11am until 1pm in the Solon High School commons. Guests will be served a modest meal of soup and bread in a ceramic bowl hand-made by a local student, educator or community member for a suggested donation of ten dollars. Guests are encouraged to keep their bowl at the end of their meal with our compliments and sincere gratitude. The meal is served to our community in the hopes that we all reflect on the needs of others who live with the very real problem of hunger every day.

We are incredibly excited to announce that once again, some of our favorite local restaurants will be lending their unique flavors and recipes to our menu! This year's menu will include offerings from Big Grove Brewery, Buff's GameDay, Bread Garden Market, Frida Kahlo Mexican Restaurant, Thai Spice, Bluebird Cafe, Stella and Kevin Zimmerman's Kitchen!

Empty Bowls is a true service-learning experience that allows students to participate in all aspects of the event including preparation, recruiting, promotion and hosting. All money raised will be donated to the CommUnity Crisis Services Food Bank and the Solon Food Pantry.

The SHS Art Club began hosting this event in the spring of 2010. Since then, the students of Art Club have raised over $35,000.00 for hunger-related charities and organizations. Empty Bowls was created by the Imagine/RENDER group over 30 years ago and has become an international movement to promote awareness of hunger-related issues. There are Empty Bowls events hosted all over the nation throughout the year.

The Solon High School Empty Bowls Luncheon to End Hunger has become a community tradition and is eagerly anticipated every spring. We grow larger every year and, with your support and patronage, we will continue to do so. Thank you very much.
