He received his MFA from University of Iowa in choreography and dance. He is able to weave together and connect traditional ballet positions with the elementary teachings of the 5 elements. In ballet there are five major positions which relate to the five elements.

Jenni Rose

From the age of five Jenni had the opportunity to dance with various dance studios and participated on the Solon High School dance team. She went on to study photography in Chicago, at Harrington School of Design and spent her twenties focused on learning about weaving, natural and synthetic dye processes, and shearing sheep. She interned at The Chicago Weaving School for 2 years, and through that process developed her own weaving curriculum that she then taught to the age of preschool to adult, in Chicago and Seattle. In 2018 she suffered an undiagnosed inflammatory episode that caused significant neuropathy and mobility loss. She has learned a lot through her personal healing journey and contributes most of that healing to the gift of a grateful mindset and a good mother.

LOCATION

Wetherby Park, 2400 Taylor Dr, Iowa City, IA 52240, USA

COVID-19

The event is held outside. July Silent Directed Retreat at Prairiewoods

Join us for a week of sacred space, silence, solitude, rest and prayer. Steeped in the love of all of creation on 70 acres of prairie and woodland, deepen awareness of life’s gifts; restore balance; live in the moment; and nurture relationships with Creator, Earth, self and others. Each day affords opportunities for healthy meals, quiet personal reflection and an hour-long session with a spiritual director. An optional centering prayer session closes each day. Body modalities, such as massage, healing touch and reflexology, may be available for an additional cost. Silent directed retreats are ideal for anyone who desires quiet time away to return to one’s center, to learn the art of deep listening, to recover a sense of wonder and gratitude for life, and to fall in love again with all of creation. This retreat is offered at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) June 19–25 and July 24–30 and is facilitated by Rose Blank; Ann Jackson, PBVM; and Lucille Winnike, FSPA. The cost is $495 and includes spiritual direction, lodging and all meals. (Lodgers only, please.) A non-refundable deposit of $25 is required at registration. (Full payment is required to register online. If you prefer to pay the $25 registration fee now and the balance when you arrive, please call 319-395-6700.) Mushroom Foraging 101

You may already enjoy edible mushrooms when dining out or when you purchase them from the store. Come discover how to ethically harvest mushrooms from the forest. We will explore diagnostic features including size, color, shape of cap and stem, underside features including pores, gills and teeth, and more. Because mother nature is unpredictable, we can not say for sure what we will find on our journey. We will be on the look out for edible mushrooms including oysters, golden oysters, woodear, chicken of the woods, hen of the woods, dryads saddle, and chanterelles. We may also encounter nonedibles along the way.

Remember to always be 100% sure on your identification before consuming wild found foods.

You are invited no matter your level of outdoor experience.

Yummy snacks generously provided by New Pioneer Co-op.

THNGS TO BRING

Standard attire and sun protection for hands-on outdoor learning: hat, leather gloves, jeans, sunscreen

A notebook and a pen/pencil for writing and drawing (optional)

A sturdy outdoor knife with a fixed blade (optional)

REGISTRATION

Sliding scale fee: $25 - $0, based upon your access to resources.

This class is a part of a 4-class series. Jun Gardening to Ease Stress & Anxiety: Coping Skills in the Garden

Intentionally cultivate and grow your connection with the land through a hands-on gardening series

Now more than ever, we need to return to our gardens. We all know instinctively how we feel better with time outside with wild plants. Intentionally cultivate and grow that connection in this four-part series. Easy-to-understand, scientifically proven benefits will be covered alongside hands-on gardening techniques. Offering many of the benefits of meditation, gardening can be a powerful mindfulness practice. All are welcome, whether we plan on growing an herb container garden in a window, joining a community garden for the first time or growing veggies in our own backyard.

Jen Kardos leads this four-part series:
1. The Undeniable Benefits of Time with Plants
2. Bring Your Worries to the Garden
3. Coping Skills in the Garden
4. Foraging Self-Compassion

The Undeniable Benefits of Time with Plants
Friday, March 25, noon–1 p.m.
Zoom session
This will be an easy-to-understand overview of the numerous evidenced-based benefits of time in gardens and nature. Much like our pets, nature can provide the unconditional love and sense of connection we are all seeking. An overview of future classes and easy plants to grow will be included.

Bring Your Worries to the Garden
Friday, April 22, 4–6 p.m.
Green Community Gardens at Prairiewoods
We are invited to bring our worries to the garden. We will experience hands-on all the ways our body's nervous system and immune system self-regulate in the garden. We will practice gardening techniques to nurture mind, body and spirit while developing practical bed preparation, seeding and transplanting skills.

Coping Skills in the Garden
Friday, June 3, 4–6 p.m.
Green Community Gardens at Prairiewoods
We will learn coping skills in the garden. We will enhance our plant-tending skills while gardening to reduce anxiety, improve mood and sooth the inner-critic. We will learn techniques of thinning and pruning and their applications in our lives. We will even be able to nibble on early harvests in the Garden of Eat’n!

Foraging Self-Compassion
Friday, June 24, 4–6 p.m.
Green Community Gardens at Prairiewoods
We will be on foraging self-compassion. This is for the perfectionist who desires to embrace the imperfect and experience more joy in the garden (and in life!). Learn the messy ways that nature thrives in the unpredictable world and the delicious abundance it offers in return. We will be foraging and tasting cultivated and wild plants, and noticing their non-judgmental natures.

The first online session is free, and each in-person session costs $20 (or register for the four-part series for $50 by calling 319-395-6700). Attendees are encouraged to sign up for the series, although registrations for only one or more individual sessions are welcomed.
2022-04-21 18:00:00 -05006/03/224:00 p.m.Green Community Gardens at PrairiewoodsHiawatha -
